Alvin ISD Education Foundation Invests in Bright Minds
Alvin ISD is among the top 15 percent of school districts in Texas, offering an outstanding educational experience for young Creekhaven residents. Backing the district is the Alvin ISD Education Foundation which empowers teachers, celebrates students, and recognizes staff excellence, all while helping to shape the future of education in the community.
The primary purpose of the foundation is to fund grants and scholarships that go beyond the district’s budget. So far, the non-profit has raised an impressive $3.4 million toward that goal.
The funds are divided between a variety of programs, including innovative teaching grants to power creative projects going beyond typical classroom teaching and campus grants that are awarded to principals and school leaders to fund initiatives that promote collaboration, strengthen relationships, and boost professional growth.
Scholarships are available to educators and staff to help fund advanced degrees or certifications at accredited colleges and universities. When it comes to students, the foundation really goes the extra mile, awarding 10 scholarships to graduating seniors at each high school in the district.
Funds are also distributed to programs such as the Alvin ISD Book Bus and STEM Bus which helps children keep the learning going after the school bell rings.
Grants and scholarships are funded through donations and community events such as the annual gala and the Turtle Race & 5K Family Fun Run. This creative event pits plastic turtle against plastic turtle released into a watercourse. The first to cross the finish line wins. For those that want to participate more actively, there is a 5K run and 1K family fun run. This year’s race takes place on February 21.
